The
City of Irving selected Kinsman & Associates to design
renovations at the Irving Civic Center. Their goal was
to improve occupant comfort within the building and to
improve the HVAC system reliability while reducing energy
consumption.
Using the latest technology in computer simulation modeling,
our engineers developed a building model that correlated
with the Civic Center’s real utility consumption
data. The correlated model revealed current operating
problems and assisted in the evaluation of proposed projects.
The model estimated that operating costs would be reduced
by over one third once the proposed projects were completed.
Kinsman engineers then designed and monitored the construction
of these recommended projects which included the replacement
of two centrifugal chillers, replacement of one atmospheric
boiler with four multi-stage high efficiency, modular
boilers, renovation of a variable air volume air distribution
system, installation of a vent cycle, replacement of condenser
water piping, and the installation of an energy management
system (EMS).
